PlayTVH connects directly to your TVHeadend server for viewing.
How PlayTVH connects
PlayTVH (“the App”) is a client for your own TVHeadend server. Live streams, EPG data and recordings are fetched from the server you configure—not from a PlayTVH viewing cloud. We designed the App to keep viewing data on your devices and your server.
Information stored on your device
- Server settings — host, port, credentials, stream profiles, and optional Wake-on-LAN MAC address are stored in secure on-device storage.
- Preferences — theme, sleep timer defaults, favorites, reminders, and similar settings.
- Offline downloads — recording files may be stored in the App’s private documents directory on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Connections to your TVHeadend server
The App contacts your configured TVHeadend server over your network (HTTP or HTTPS, depending on how you set up the server). It may also use local network discovery (mDNS / LAN scan) and optional Wake-on-LAN broadcasts.
On iPhone, iPad, and Android phones/tablets, optional Chromecast uses Google’s Cast framework to discover nearby Cast devices and send a stream URL from your TVHeadend server to the Cast device. Cast discovery uses local network / Bonjour services. We do not operate a Cast relay; the Cast device fetches media from your server.
When you use Chromecast, share, copy link, or QR for an external player, the stream URL may include your TVHeadend username and password in the URL (HTTP Basic userinfo) so the receiver can authenticate. Treat shared links like passwords, and prefer a dedicated streaming user with limited rights.
Diagnostics and analytics
PlayTVH does not operate a PlayTVH cloud account for channel lists, EPG, or recordings, and we do not sell personal data. Payment for the paid download is processed by the Apple App Store (Google Play when Android ships); we do not receive your payment card details.
Optional Chromecast may involve Google’s Cast SDK on supported devices. App Store privacy labels describe any device identifiers associated with Cast; Cast is used for app functionality, is not linked to your identity by PlayTVH, and is not used for tracking across apps or websites by PlayTVH.
Third-party services
- Apple / Google — store distribution and payment processing.
- Google Cast — optional casting on phone and tablet builds.
- Your TVHeadend server — all viewing and recording traffic goes there under your control.
Notifications
With your permission, the App may show local notifications for programme reminders and completed downloads. These are scheduled on-device.
Support requests
If you use the support form on playtvh.app, we receive the name, email address, platform, topic and message you submit so we can reply. That information is sent by email to the developer and is not published.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region).
Changes to this policy
We may update this page when the App or hosting practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
